Rural Rock and Roll (2006), a film written/directed by Jensen Rufe, documents a week in the life of the Humboldt County, CA underground music scene. It screened in San Francisco on July 14, 2007 followed by an after party at the Hotel Utah that featured live sets by Humboldt faves The Ian Fays, Broken Hearts and Dynamite Sweater. Having experience the Humboldt music scene first hand some years ago, I was happy to see it's vibrancy, diversity and D.I.Y. ethic continues to thrive. This show is dedicated to the scene, then and now, and contains sound clips from the film Rural Rock and Roll, interviews with long time scene staples Mike of Dynamite Sweater and Steve Bohner of The Hitch, tracks from current bands like The Ravens, The Monster Women, The Hitch, The Ian Fays as well as older bands such as Grout, Lunchpail Handbag, Nuns with Guns and 100 Bucks.

Damn!!! What a show. I had a great time with my guests Penelope Houston of The Avengers/solo John Gullack, Paul Fleming and Fritz Fox of The Mutants.
